Worth knowing

  • Cal Barrel Road is in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and Walker Road is in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, as the page describes them; the page gives NPS-site guidance only and says to check locally for regulations at nearby non-NPS places (Smith River National Recreation Area, public beaches, Arcata Community Forest).
  • The page lists Tall Trees Trail only as a parking lot where leashed pets may be; pets are not permitted on the trail itself.
  • Dead salmon along riverbanks can be highly toxic to dogs, per the page.
  • The text capture cuts off one sentence mid-word ('...Redwood National and State Pa'); no rule appears to be lost.

How we read the rules

Every statement on this page was taken from the park’s own pets page on nps.gov and the quoted sentences are re-checked against our saved copy of that page each time the site is built. Parks change pet rules for wildlife, heat and trail conditions, and superintendents can close areas at short notice, so treat the park’s pets page and the ranger at the entrance as the final word. Service animals are covered by different rules. Compare all 63 parks.
