FAQ
Checklist questions
- Is there a printable national parks checklist?
- Yes: the PDF on this page lists all 63 national parks alphabetically with a box to tick, the state, and the year each was established. It prints on two sheets of US Letter paper.
- How do I keep track of the national parks I've visited?
- Tick them off here or on the map: your list is saved in this browser on this device, no account needed. To keep trips, photos and dates with each visit (and sync between phones), use the Park'd app for iPhone or Android.
- Which national parks are hardest to check off?
- The 8 parks with no road in: Channel Islands, Dry Tortugas, Gates of the Arctic, Glacier Bay, Isle Royale, Katmai, Kobuk Valley, Lake Clark. You reach them by plane or boat, according to the National Park Service.
- What are the oldest and newest national parks on the list?
- The oldest is Yellowstone National Park (1872); the newest is New River Gorge National Park & Preserve (2020).
- Is there a checklist of every National Park Service site, not just the 63?
- Yes. The all-NPS-sites checklist covers every site in the NPS directory (monuments, historic sites, battlefields, seashores and more) on a separate page, so this 63-park list stays simple. Parks you tick on either page stay in sync.
- Does the checklist count Sequoia and Kings Canyon separately?
- Yes. They're two national parks managed together as one unit, so they get two boxes, which is how the list reaches 63.
